Ask A Black Guy: Thoughts on Justin Foster

She slept with the wrong guy and lost it all.

Despicable. Absolutely despicable. Justin Foster proved himself to be one of the sorriest individuals living on this planet by “tweeting” about having sex with his high school teacher and posting nude pictures of her on the internet. He broke one of the most universal and fundamental rules of being Black. “Don’t snitch”. Every race has some version of “no tattle-telling”, but Black people as a whole hold loyalty as one of our core values. There are some cases where the failure to “snitch” has landed a person in trouble, such as with Lil’ Kim, the famous Bronx rapper who served federal time for not giving up her friends in a case about a gun fight. However, the loyalty that Black people show to one another also binds us together for many positive reasons, such as keeping close family relationships and maintaining a strong sense of community. In an attempt to be the big man on campus at West Virginia University, Foster made irreparable mistakes that have lasting effects on himself and those around him. What he did was wrong on so many levels. With one completely narcissistic act, he effectively destroyed a woman’s life, defined himself as a self-absorbed low-life and an attention whore, and guaranteed that he will never sleep with another woman.

Though Anna Michelle Walters made quite a few terrible decisions in this incident, and the law sees her as a predator who took advantage of a minor, she is clearly the victim of this case. I am not a fan of the gross double standard that applies to cases where women break the law versus the cases when men are the culprits, however Justin Foster was not manipulated into sexual acts with some conniving woman. No, Justin Foster was given an opportunity that most teenagers dream of. And, he not only squandered this present, but he also spat in the face of the giver. Foster has ruined the life of his former lover. Anna Walters lost her job immediately after the lewd texts and pictures surfaced, she will go to prison if she is convicted of her crime, and she will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. Being a sex offender means that she will struggle to find a house or a job. It means that if she ever finds a man who can deal with her sordid past, gets married, and has her own children, she will not be able to pick them up from school. Having to register as a sex offender means that Walters will be stigmatized and ostracized for the rest of her life. By failing to keep his mouth closed, Justin Foster screwed Walters again, but in the worst way possible.

And a completely unintentional byproduct of his successful venture of ruining Walters life, was Foster ruining his own life too. Though he has not celebrated his 21st birthday, he can already be identified publicly as a selfish, vindictive person prior to him entering any office for an interview. No company wants to hire a man who is obviously self-involved, immature, and disloyal to those closest to him. Justin has thrust himself into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. And, Foster has killed his social and sex life too. First of all, he looks like a dread-locked Gremlin. He was up against the odds of finding another sex partner before he broadcast himself as the as an attention-loving loose-lipped idiot. Now, no woman with the intelligence of a lab rat would ever sleep with him.

Seriously, they look alike.

The most mind-boggling factor in this whole case, is not that a hot substitute teacher would sleep with her homely sixteen year old student or that the student did not keep the secret. The most incredibly asinine part of this whole mess is that Justin Foster thought that airing a woman’s dirty laundry (with him) on Twitter and the internet would somehow make him look better. And the saddest part of this case, is that two lives have been forever marred by one kid’s vengeful, selfish act.

Under current Virginia law, it’s not illegal for a public school employee to have a sexual relationship with a student, if the student is of age.

Well, Anna was fired and is going to be prosecuted, so there was some law broken.
